Janet Mayled career as a professional artist began more than forty years ago. She began her artistic journey training as a textile designer at Manchester Polytechnic. Early in her career, Janet produced unique fabric pieces, including wall hangings and bespoke fashion textiles, before deciding to dedicate herself primarily to painting. Throughout her career, she has embraced a variety of media, and her recent works predominantly make use of acrylics. Janet often incorporates other materials such as paper and fabric into her paintings, creating depth and texture within her vibrant and intricate compositions.
Janet’s artistic repertoire includes landscapes, still life, and urban scenes, though her current focus is centred on observing and capturing people engaged in their everyday routines. Regardless of the subject matter, she seeks to create engaging compositions that guide the viewer’s eye throughout the painting. By deconstructing elements into patterns and utilising line, colour, and form, Janet leads the viewer from one point of interest to the next. She works both en -plein air and in her studio, capturing the essence of her subjects in a variety of settings.
Janet holds a PGCE in Further Education and has taught Art and Design at a college in the Northwest. She also leads workshops and offers demonstrations of her artistic techniques, sharing her expertise with others.
